Christmas With Strangers: Email Update! (If you didn’t receive this email, but would like to be added to the list, let me know)

Hello all Showbread and/or Christmas fans!

It’s that time of year again. I hope you’re all doing well. If you’re wondering, you’re receiving this email because you have, in the past, purchased or downloaded one of our Raw Rock Christmas albums (I won’t send emails about this more than twice a year, but if you’d like to be removed from this list, let me know), so you are cordially invited to attend A Raw Rock Christmas 3: Christmas With Strangers!

If everything goes according to plan, I will be releasing this album for free download (or donation, if you like) on December 1st - one month from this Saturday. There is, however, one big change from the previous albums: I’m hoping this year to release a physical, tangible copy of Christmas With Strangers on a limited, hand-numbered cd. It will likely be limited to around 100 copies, though maybe 150-200 if there happens to be a lot of interest before I place the order. Aiming to price them around $7-$9, but the bigger of an order I place, the cheaper I can sell them. So if this is something that interests you, please let me know either by email, our Facebook, our Twitter, or right on our forums. This will help me make an idea of how many I should order and what a fair price can be. I’m very open to ideas and suggestions as well.

Some other things to know about:

Album Art! There’s still time for you designers, artists, photographers to come up with this year’s artwork for Christmas With Strangers. The deadline will be next Friday, November 9th. At that time, I will hold a 2 or 3 day vote on our forums (guest voting enabled - you don’t have to be a registered user) to determine which submitted art will be used. There is a prize for the winning artist: in addition to last year’s prize ($10 iTunes or Amazon gift card), you will receive a free copy of the limited, hand-numbered cd. Your artwork will be physically printed for you to hold. How cool is that? My only request is that, should you win, you be willing to help out a bit (or a lot) with designing the rest of the cd package. Not required, but it would be a huge help. You can email me your submission (600x600 px minimum, 1000x1000 px preferred) here at jeremy@rawrockmilitia.com

Music! Obviously, in order to make this thing happen, I need musicians, bands, poets, etc. Since this is being physically printed, I want this year to be a good one! Your song has to be Christmas/winter/Holiday themed. Other than that, I will leave it pretty open (but please, no cursing or foul language). The full details/guidelines can be seen at the forum link listed above. I cannot stress enough how important it is that your submission is a lossless audio file - in other words, uncompressed. A .wav, .aif or .flac file is what I’m looking for. Worst comes to worst, I can make use of .mp3s and such, but if I can avoid this it will save a lot of headache and the album as a whole will flow much nicer. The deadline for music will be right near the end of November, the 28th or 29th. You can send these to me (the sooner, the better) at the same email: jeremy@rawrockmilitia.com
A note to all the musicians who will be appearing on the album: I unfortunately cannot provide free copies of the physical album to everybody, but I will definitely work out something very fair with pricing as a thank you for your music. I’ll keep you updated!

I present to you, fellow Breadheads, this year’s Christmas album title. Now, we need an album cover! Attention all designers, artists, photographers, etc: we’re looking for your expertise! There will be a prize for the winning artwork, as well - usually an iTunes giftcard, or some money to the Showbread webstore, or something of the like. Maybe I can extend it to Amazon giftcards this year as well.

Some quick points for those interested:

Any designers/artists/abstract-ists out there: any submissions have to be at least600x600 (and preferably be square). Ideally, I’d like to have 1000x1000, but anywhere in between those two will be fine. Let’s see your ideas!
Also, it isn’t required, but when you submit, please let me know if (in the event your artwork wins) you’ll be willing to help with putting together the liner notes. Seth has been more than accommodating the past two years with helping to create an amazing overall package, and I’d love to keep it going.

Today at work, over the speakers we played our first Christmas song of the year: “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”. This means it’s officially okay for me to start listening to Christmas music. This also means that we can start work on A Raw Rock Christmas III!

So first thing’s first: A Raw Rock Christmas is a compilation of Christmas and winter themed songs recorded by you, the Showbread/RRM Community, and its’ friends. They can be covers or originals. There are only a few guidelines, listed below, but here’s an important one for you who aren’t on RRM with us:
You do not have to be registered on the site to be a part of this. Both members of RRM and non-members are allowed to submit to any part of this, and everyone is equally eligible for prizes.

There are prizes! Promise! I will provide a prize for whoever submits the winning album art, and then again for whoever has the top song. All entries will have a chance to win. Likely it will be iTunes giftcards and Showbread swag again, but if anybody has any other ideas, please let me know. If coffee’s your thing, I can also send you a pound or two of whatever your favorite Starbucks blend happens to be. Thoughts?
*I do still owe prizes from last year to both Seth and to Pretty Riot! - I do intend on fixing this asap, as soon as Showbread opens their store again.

What we need!
Interested? We need several things to do this: album title, artwork, and of course, a (literal) ton of songs.

Writers and creative thinkers, start posting your title ideas right away. I’d like to keep discussion to the thread on RRM forums, but you may also write on our Facebook wall or tweet at us.

Musicians/bands/singers/poets/etc, without you, there will be no album. We’re looking for really anything, not limited to genre. Most of the album usually ends up being indie/folk kind of stuff, but over the past two albums, we’ve also had punk rock, talk music, 8-bit, and grindstuff submissions. Last year we even got to include our first rap. Crazy.
Some of you may want to do more than one song, or may have multiple bands/projects you’re in. This is totally cool. We don’t want there to be too much by the same person, but I’ll do my best. How I decide all this is usually determined by the total overall submissions. If you can’t decide what to submit, send me everything you’re considering, we can discuss and try to pick together.

Guidelines!
Now that I’ve written another novel, here are the guidelines for submitting music:

You do not have to be a registered user of this site to submit a song. Both members and non-members can contribute. However, registration is free now so you may register if you wish, it might make things easier.
Music must be Christmas/winter/holiday related. It doesn’t have to be religious in any way, but this is a family-friendly site - it needs to be appropriate, content-wise. No swears, y’all.
These can be covers (new or traditional), re-imaginings of other songs, or your own original piece. The content, however, must be your own.
Instrumental is cool too. It may seem weird to write a Christmas song without words, but quite a few of our musicians in the last two years have done this quite well.
Remember, I need the original uncompressed audio of your song, not an mp3. When you bounce your song, make sure you save a copy as either .wav, .aif, or .flac. This is the file that I need. If you’re unsure of how to do this, please hit me up and I’m more than happy to help you out. I can use your mp3 as a last resort, but I’m hoping to avoid this altogether this year.*
Please do not post your creations publicly online, it’s way more fun to wait until everything’s released at once before anyone hears any songs.

Anything can be emailed to me at jeremy@rawrockmilitia.com - ALL submissions must go there. Discussion can go to the thread I linked above, you can also post on our Facebook wall or @reply us on Twitter. If you want Showbread involved again, you should tweet at all of them or write on their walls.

*Usually a lossless quality audio file will be quite large, and sometimes too large to be sent as an email attachment. If you have trouble with this, please upload to http://mediafire.com/, http://dropbox.com/, or a similar site and email me the link to download. Make sure you include the info I requested above.

If everything goes according to plan, I want to release the album December 1st. Hopefully we can have an album title by the end of the month, an album art by the end of October, and everything ready to release at the end of November. Thoughts? Anybody have any cool ideas for this year?

Showbread’s new album, Cancer, is only 17 days away from public release - distributed for free via Come&Live! on September 25. But some of us have already had the priviledge of hearing and enjoying part of it (remember, there’s a lot more to this release than just an album).

So whether you’ve heard it or haven’t, please take the time to share (without revealing too much) about the album and movie, and remember the Cancer Rebel Kit that Showbread provided us with to deck out all your social profiles. Some very exciting new treats here on RRM for exclusives members. I’d get in here if I were you.

A quick note: A lot of people have been having issues figuring it all out. I’m very sorry about this, and I’m doing my best to fix all problems, and respond to all the emails and messages I’ve been getting since last night. My current whereabouts makes it a little difficult to deal with Militia stuff, so I won’t be able to fully focus on most of these issues until a little later on today.
